Pediatric Care

Most people don't know that kids need chiropractic care too. It is a common misconception, but chiropractic adjustments are so important for children that it is almost more important for our kids than for ourselves.  Chiropractic adjustments are not just for back pain, although more than 80% of children report having back pain.

Pediatric adjustments are incredibly gentle and help your child's entire body function better. It can help with things such as:

  • Digestive Problems/Stomach Aches

  • Constipation

  • Allergies and Asthma

  • Headaches

  • Bed wetting

  • Ear Infections

  • Dyslexia (reading difficulty)and Dyspraxia (motor incoordination)

  • Poor Posture

  • Athletic Performance

  • Sports Injuries

  • Irritability

  • Proper Sleep

  • ADD/ADHD

  • Nervousness

  • Eye problems

  • Skin Problems

  • Musculo-skeletal problems from falls, backpacks, injuries...

Infants Care

Chiropractic adjustments are especially important in the early months of a baby's life to check for spinal or cranial lesions suffered during the birth process. Such damage may cause the following symptoms or developmental problems:

  • Plagiocephaly (bent or crooked head)*

  • Colic/Gas

  • Frequent Spitting up

  • Constipation

  • Poor Breastfeeding or Suckling Problems**

  • Bell's Palsy

  • Brachial Plexus Injuries

  • Poor Sleep Habits

  • Irritability

  • Baby Awakes Screaming

  • SIDS

*Plagiocephaly is a very common condition that goes mostly untreated, yet has profound effects on a childs ability to have optimal cognitive and motor development.  It is common for newborns to innitially have some cranial malformations that are sustained during the delivery process, but these malformations should self-resolve within 24 hours of delivery.  Any persistence in these mis-shapen heads is a sign of significant cranial tension.  Dr. Cherie has trained with chiropractic's leading craniopaths to learn techniques that help to normalize this cranial stress.

**Breast Feeding is one of the most important things in a baby's life.  Although it is not always possible, it is something that should be attempted diligently.  Statistically,  studies have shown that breast fed babies have higher IQ's and stronger immune systems than non-breast fed babies.  Yet, problems with breast feeding are very common and cause a great deal of stress to both mom and baby.  Many of these problems are a sign that the baby is having some sort of trouble.  Damage sustained during the delivery process can create lesions of the baby's jaw, neck or cranium, thereby making it uncomfortable, and even painful for the baby to breastfeed.  Chiropractic adjustments can relieve the stress and help the baby heal, allowing for more comfortable breastfeeding.

For more assistance with breast feeding topics call your local La Leche League.

Infant/Pediatric Checkups

How do you know when your child needs a checkup, even if they seem fine and are symptom-free? It's easy. Let Dr. Cherie teach you how to look for warning signs. There are also some key times in a baby's life that warrant a chiropractic checkup:

  • After the birth process

  • When the baby starts to hold his/her head up

  • When the baby sits up

  • When the baby starts to crawl

  • When the baby sarts to stand

  • When the baby starts to walk

Vaccines

Vaccinations are the most controversial topic in pediatric healthcare. For the most part, we are terribly misguided by the medical community regarding the dangers of common vaccines. I hope that any family considering vaccinating their child become an advocate for their child's health and safety by doing some investigating on their own.

For more information about the dangers of vaccines, how to find a safe vaccine, and how to get exemptions from vaccines, visit the National Vaccine Safety Information Center's website at www.909shot.com. This site is a great resource.
